Dr. Theo Cramer - Superintendent of Schools for Isle of Wight Co., VA

A resident of Laurel, Maryland, Theo Cramer, Ed.D., has worked in education administration for 23 years, beginning as a principal at Laurel High School. Presently, Dr. Theo Cramer is the Superintendent of Schools for Isle of Wight County Schools.

As superintendent, Dr. Cramer has made significant contributions to the school system, which is comprised of nine schools that educate an estimated 5,400 students. He helped the school district earn full accreditation in all schools during his tenure as superintendent and the distinction of reaching some of the highest categories under Virginia’s new accountability model, School Performance and Support Framework, for 2025.

Dr. Cramer has also helped the school district receive more than $10 million in grant funding and secured over $14 million in additional funding for capital improvement projects. He has worked diligently toward retaining educators, with only 2.5 percent of the district’s teachers leaving. He has also collaborated with community partners and organizations to make additional contributions to the school district.

He has also been instrumental in making improvements across the district, including constructing a new central office and obtained a new warehouse. Under his leadership, the school district completed the building of a new $36 million-dollar elementary school on time and under budget. Under his purview, the district has added new tracks for all high schools, tennis courts, tracks, fields, and purchased additional buses.

Dr. Cramer earned a doctorate in Educational and Organizational Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. He is also a board member of the Governor's School of the Arts, Riverside Regional Hospital Medical Center, WHRO Public Media, and Smithfield Riverside Hospital (as an advisory board member).
